Introduction

The association Les 7 calvaires monumentaux de Bretagne was created in 2004, after that the seven towns of Guéhenno, Saint-Jean-Trolimon, Pleyben, Plougastel-Daoulas, Guimiliau, Saint-Thégonnec and Plougonven realized the necessity to preserve and bring Brittany’s historical heritage to life.

Dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, the great calvaries depict the golden age of Brittany. During this time, maritime trade and hessian industry contributed to population’s increase in wealth. Then, this prosperity was used to build works of cult, which was seen at this time as a promise of salvation for the Last Judgment.
